The World In Colour
Four years after the release of his critically acclaimed third album, āOut of the Darknessā, Gizmo Varillas is gearing up for the release of his new album, The World in Colour, featuring the timeless and poignant āWhere is the Loveā, āFollow the Sunā with its haunting trumpet intro performed by Alfredo Pino, long-time collaborator of Mexicoās star singer songwriter Natalia Lafourcade, āOjos Nuevosā, a collaboration with virtuoso Welsh harpist Amanda Whiting, and the deeply personal āDesde el Otro Ladoā.
Ā
āOver the past few years, through loss, change, love, exploration, and growth, Iāve come to see the world in a richer, more nuanced way. I titled my latest album āThe World in Colourā to capture the full spectrum of emotions Iāve experienced - moments of joy, sadness, and all the shades in between.ā
Ā
āMusically, I wanted the album to be a cinematic experience, a companion on a road trip. It blends soul, Latin, Caribbean, funk, folk, and rock. My main inspiration came from the 1960s and 70s, particularly from Stax Records artists like Booker T., Isaac Hayes, William Bell, and their house band, the M.G.'s.ā ā Gizmo Varillas
